Divorce and other family law disputes are often once-in-a-lifetime events that will forever alter the trajectory of a person’s life. When the stakes are that high, and when the issues involved are complex, there is only one chance to get things right. Scott Strickler understands this. While he has successfully resolved hundreds of family law disputes during his career, Scott rarely approaches a case the same way twice. By customizing his strategy to each client’s situation and goals, Scott makes it difficult for opponents to anticipate his next move, or to successfully combat it.

After more than thirty years of experience in family law, Scott still sees every client and every case as unique. His ability to avoid preconceptions of how a case will unfold allows him to remain open to a variety of possible approaches to the issues involved. This approach addresses the client’s needs more thoroughly and precisely, as well as keeping opposing counsel off balance.

Scott Strickler is respected for his tactical approach to cases involving difficult tax issues or significant or complex assets. Repeatedly featured by Bethesda Magazine as a top divorce attorney in the Washington, DC metropolitan region, the magazine has highlighted Scott’s mastery of “complicated tax issues” and referred to him as a “master strategist” with a commitment to improving his clients’ overall strategic position.

Scott has been recognized by other prominent publications, as well. Worth magazine has selected him as one of the top one hundred attorneys in the United States serving the needs of affluent clientele. He has also been featured in Washington Post Magazine’s “Best Lawyers, A Comprehensive Guide to the Area’s Top Attorneys” and Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top family law attorneys in Maryland.

Those honors are the fruit of decades of practice devoted exclusively to family law. Scott began practicing in 1986, following his service as the judicial law clerk to the Chief Judge of Maryland’s Fifth Judicial Circuit. In the decades since, he has represented clients in every type of family law matter, from the drafting of prenuptial agreements to the successful resolution of contested divorce matters, post-judgment disputes and appeals. Much of Scott’s work involves complex financial issues such as business valuation and the use of the Tax Code to help clients negotiate an optimal settlement.

Scott’s depth of knowledge in domestic relations law and complex financial matters has made him a sought-after public speaker. He frequently teaches continuing legal education (CLE) programs for attorneys and regularly makes presentations to financial advisors, accountants and members of the general public. Popular topics have included “Stock Options and Hidden Assets in Divorce,” “Alimony Trends in Maryland,” and “Creative Settlement Strategies: Maximizing Tax Savings.” In addition to representing clients and speaking on legal issues, Scott has often served as an expert witness at trial and in administrative proceedings on topics ranging from attorney fees to child support laws and child custody procedures.

Scott is gratified by recognition from legal organizations and publications, but what matters most to him is achieving his client’s goals. As one reviewer noted, Scott Strickler is “an extremely talented and knowledgeable practitioner…Scott is the only legal reference that I would give to anyone who needs legal advice and counsel in the U.S.”
